Swedish Massage is a very relaxing and therapeutic style of bodywork. It combines oils or lotion with an array of strokes such as rolling, kneading, and percussion to help the body improve its circulation. The benefits of this type of bodywork are wide-ranging and include relief from aches and pains, decreased stress levels in the body, enhanced mental clarity, and greater flexibility.
Deep Tissue (Hands-on or Ashiatsu)
Deep Tissue Massage is a form of bodywork that aims to relieve tension in the deeper layers of tissue in the body. Deep Tissue Massage is a highly effective method for releasing chronic stress areas due to misalignment, repetitive motions, and past lingering injuries. Due to the nature of the deep tissue work, open communication during the session is crucial to make sure you don’t get too uncomfortable. Ashiatsu: The therapist uses her feet instead of her hands to access the deeper layers of the body. Parallel, wooden bars are positioned over the massage table to help her keep her balance, during the standing work. Some of the work is practiced with her seated on a stool at the head of the table.

Targeted massage is best for clients who have specific areas of concern that need to be addressed and may not necessarily want or need a full body massage. The massage techniques used help to relieve or decrease pain and improve range of motion. The pressure generally ranges from medium to firm, but lighter pressure is available upon request.

Reflexology is a focused pressure technique performed on the feet based on the premise that there are zones and reflexes on different parts of the body which corresponds to and are relative to all parts, glands and organs of the entire body. When the reflexes are stimulated by the therapist applying pressure with her hands, the body’s natural electrical energy works along the nervous system to clear any blockages in the corresponding zones. A reflexology session is intended to break up deposits (felt as a sandy or gritty area under the skin) which may interfere with this natural flow of the body’s energy. We offer reflexology as a stand alone service and also as an add-on to other massage services that LaVonna offers. Clients can remain fully clothed during a session.

Craniosacral therapy (CST) is a gentle touch therapy performed with the client face up and fully clothed in moveable, comfortable clothing. This light touch therapy stimulates the body to self-correct not only physically, but also mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. The therapist focuses on the head, vertebral column and surrounding connective tissues to address factors that compromise proper posture and function throughout the body. Besides correcting structural imbalances and improving overall flexibility, CST also boosts immune system function, promotes detoxification, and helps alleviate pain, anxiety, fatigue, and sleep disorders. We do not treat children and those needing intraoral issues addressed at this time.

During a chair massage, the client remains fully clothed and sits in a specialized chair designed for the client to rest forward slightly, with their arms and legs supported. A face cradle supports the client’s head. The therapist massages through the client’s clothes so there is no use of cream during this type of session unless indicated for the forearms, hands, and neck. Chair massage is a good option for clients who may not be able to rest comfortably on a massage table, or who prefer to remain fully clothed.

Movement is a modality appropriate for clients who prefer to remain fully clothed. The therapist moves the client through a series of passive stretches to unwind fascial restrictions and improve range of motion. Assisted stretching allows the client to experience a deeper stretch.
Reiki is another modality appropriate for clients who prefer to remain fully clothed. It is a complementary, Eastern medicine health approach in which the practitioner places their hands on or just above different areas the body to restore the flow of vital life force energy, which helps support the client’s health and vitality. It is used to treat physical, emotional, and mental ailments. This modality can also be incorporated into other treatment sessions.
